Energy Assistance
Program
Purpose
Utility assistance programs
available from the federal
and state governments and
from utility companies are
coordinated to help
low-income households meet
their energy needs. The
Community Services
Administration (CSA)
subcontracts with community
agencies to administer the
Low-Income Home Energy
Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
and the Utility Repair,
Replacement and Deposit
Program (URRD). Through
these programs services
provided are utility
deposits and payments.
Weatherization of homes is
conducted and certain
appliances can be repaired
or replaced. There are also
a wide array of utility
discount programs which are
coordinated with these
services. A separate fact
sheet has been prepared to
provide more detailed
information on them.
